Robots, butterfly based dances, poetry and maths from Oxford Brookes’ University’s popular Science Bazaar’s are going on tour in the community this year.
Bringing activities to RHJYC
The Science Bazaar’s last event in February saw 3,200 visitors flock to the university’s Headington campus.
This June and July selected activities from the Science Bazaar will be taken to Rose Hill JYC for a week of fun, educational summer activities!
A host of activities from our Butterflies Under Pressure initiative will be happening at the youth club!
Superpillars Assemble
Children will get the chance to take part in a lively Superpillars Assemble PE activity developed by the LYNNEBEC Performance Company.
Butterflies Under Pressure was launched in 2022 by Dr Casper Breuker, Senior Lecturer and Subject Co-ordinator for biology at Oxford Brookes University and Dr Melanie Gibbs from the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in Wallingford.
Poetry and creative writing
A playground scavenger hunt will run into poetry workshops with Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre, led by Dr Niall Munro, Senior Lecturer American Literature & Director of the Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre as well as creative writing students with poems to be collated into a published anthology.
Maths and robotics
Dr Sam Kamperis, Lecturer from the School of Engineering and Math at Oxford Brookes University will be setting a fun maths challenge.
Young people will also have the opportunity to meet Cozmo robots at youth club!
